It all started with this:
Abbie chose this as her prize for M&M Kids (our church’s Wednesday night group: Missions and Memory. They spend the year memorizing scripture verses in A -Z topics).
It has been by nemesis ever since.
I have enjoyed a long life, thus far, having never considered learning to knit (except for that 3 minutes, 30 years ago when my mom tried to teach me).
I am left-handed.
Left-handed people aren’t supposed to do complicated things like sharpen pencils with an old style pencil sharpener, cut paper or knit.
While my mom was here for Christmas, we cracked it open so that Abbie and I could learn from her. Abbie gave up after about 5 minutes; she has a longer attention span then I did at her age. However, I was determined to finally get it. I am tired of looking around at all of the cute things everyone made for Christmas presents and thinking I wish I could do that…
But once again, I was unable to learn from my mom. Thus began my search on the internet. I printed page after page of instructions with pictures to follow. I figured if I put them all together, eventually I’d find a few that made sense to me.
Nope.
Then I did a search for knitting videos on youtube.
Voila! The videos I found lead me to KnittingHelp.com (amazing site, by the way. lots of helpful videos). From this site, I decided I’d try learning the continental method (as opposed to the English method traditionally taught in the States.)
After 3,687,203 tries, I finally learned to cast on with the help of this video on their site. But then I became stuck on how to get on to the next row and start the actual knitting. Try as I might, I just couldn’t tell what was going on in the video for this topic.
My search for help lead me to this:
Now I really felt stupid.
I’ve continued my search and my attempts. But I am about to lose.my.mind.
So look at what I was just given:
Wish me luck.
Otherwise, I may clear out the ice cream aisle at the local Kroger.
