Moses had the right idea – Wherever He leads, I’ll go

I remember riding in the car with my husband six years ago and telling him that I knew what the Lord wanted from me in service to Him. I felt the Lord calling me to speak with others about abortion. In a post reserved for later, I’ve been there and the Lord has healed me. (All praise and glory to Him.) I wanted to share what He has done for me, with others facing this same prospect and/or those trying to heal from the pain that follows such a choice.

When I told my husband, he didn’t laugh, he didn’t roll his eyes or snort. He didn’t tell me that was a ridiculous idea. Frankly, I couldn’t have blamed him if he did any of those things. I am not a speak in front of others kind of gal. But instead, he looked at me and said “Go for it. When you follow the Lord, you will be blessed and He will open doors.”

The last part of his statement was significant because at the time, we lived in a very rural town that did not have any resources for me to hone my skills. I prayed for opportunities and was soon asked to take over a bible study from a friend who was moving away.

I was also invited to attend various Christian conferences where I was able to see first hand, the power of the spoken word to encourage and nurture women of all ages and walks of life.

That was the extent of the Lords “door opening” and I waited patiently for His next nudge.

Two years ago, I started my blog. At first, as it is for most people, I wanted to share pictures and stories with family and friends who lived far away. But as I met people through other blogs and became connected with other women around the world, I realized that the Lord was working through me, through my blog. That has been my prayer ever since I realized that people outside of my family were reading my words.

I see the Lord answer that prayer when people email me about a post. Or they leave an anonymous comment that my words spoke to them.

Once again, I feel the Lord nudging me. It’s never been clear to me, whether the Lord plans to use me in a small or large arena. And sometimes, I wonder if it’s my written words He wants to use. But I am trusting His lead.

He is a big God and He can use me however He chooses.

Where does this go from here?

Proverbs 31 Ministries is holding SheSpeaks, a conference focusing on improving your speaking and writing. Such a conference would help equip me with the skills necessary for such a ministry, as has been placed before me. Attending would be a blessing. But the cost is prohibitive.

Hence, my entry for the scholarship being offered.

Maybe the Lord wants to use this as an avenue for me. Or, He may have other plans. But I am comforted by the fact that His will will be done, one way or the other.

Maybe He wants to send you.

  19. Karla, I love your post and I’m so glad that you won. May this just be the beginning of all God has planned for you. When I attended the conference in 2005, I learned that the process between now and then is not the preparation, but God’s goal. He’ll have so many amazing lessons to teach you as you surrender to Him and as He prepares your heart for all He has in store.
    Blessings to you,
Rejoicing today in all God is doing,

  43. Yay! Congrats on winning the scholarship!

  44. Congrats, Karla! I am truly glad you are getting to go. Here’s what I wrote on Lysa’s Blog:

“I remember reading Karla’s entry and thinking, “This girl needs to go!” If I didn’t win, I hoped it would be Karla, because so many women need to hear what she has to say, and what the Lord has put inside her! My heart breaks for women who need to feel God’s grace for a decision they have made, and it’s so cool that he has chosen her to bring healing.”

  45. Congrats, Karla!!!!! Can’t wait to hear all about your trip!

  46. Isn’t this fun stuff?! Way to go! I love your blog. Keep blogging! I know that God will bless you and use you and She Speaks will be a wonderful way for Him to continue that work!
