It’s official! I’m cool!

Well, at least my daughter thinks so, for now. I’ll savor it while I can.

Some of you may not know this, but a couple nights a week I wait tables at a local eatery. It gets me out of the house and gives us some instant cash.

The other night, Sean and the kids came in to eat (and sit in my section). Abbie L.O.V.E.S to eat out. She would do it every meal. Every day, if given the chance. (The girl knew the names of every restaurant before she was 3 — without even eating at them. I imagine her sitting in a fine restaurant one day tasting foods for her syndicated food critic column. “Excuse me, do you have any Grey Popoun?”) So, this job already impressed her. I hope she gets a little more choosey in regards to what impresses her – but for now, I’ll take it.

One of my tables, that was near them, ordered one of our yummy desserts that is served on a hot skillet and drizzled with a sauce. As I served it and poured the sauce, sizzling and popping, all over, I heard a sweet voice behind me, full of awe, say” “Mom’s cool!”

Oh, sweet mercy! The child just sealed her Christmas list fate.

  1. You know we have to take what we can get. Cute, cute story.

  2. That’s sweet – my kids are already aware of their mama’s lack of cool. Enjoy it!

Too too too too sweet!!! :)

  4. She does have one COOOOL mom. Take it while you can ’cause it ia amazing how fast what is “cool” changes.
    Love ya sis,

  5. Sweet but how did she tip? :-)

  6. I also have a part-time job waiting tables and cooking at little restaurant in the tiny town where I live. My niece is much the same way. The coolest thing to her is when I actually get to run the cash register! Ooooo!

That is so sweet. Kids are amazing in how they accept us just as we are and look at the simple as the extraordinary! You are blessed. :)
