Go… NOW!

Go read this post at my brother’s blog and be blessed.

And for a beautiful description for the reason he’s named his blog as he did, read this post.

(Don’t be afraid… he doesn’t bite!)

Help a lady out, why don’t cha

So, I signed up for NaBloPoMo… Now I’m freaking, wondering what in the world I’m gonna post every! day! for a month!

Hey, I’ve done crazier things, like that time that I… oh. never mind. I’ll save it for a post in November. But that’s just one post! What about the other 29 days in November!?

Well, here is where you, my sweet dear friends and readers come in. Taking a cue from Megan at Sorta Crunchy, I’m asking you for ideas.

I’m throwing myself out there… setting myself up for embarrassment from the possibility that no one cares and no one has anything they wish for me to wax nostalgic about, pontificate, discuss, sermonize or lecture on.

The questions can be silly or serious, mundane or philosophical (that is a direct steal from Megan’s request). Questions about me, my family, my beliefs, the color of my carpet… I’m even willing to do research on a topic (like I did on chiggers). Obviously, I’ll pick and choose the ones I like the best and that make me look good! Oh, I jest – y’all know how transparent I am. Who else has written about pin worms on their blog!

Now 30 questions does put a lot of pressure on the 2 people that read my blog… but I know you two can do it! BRING IT ON! Otherwise, (and this is another blatantly plagiarized statement of Megan’s) I’ll be forced to answer my own questions (or to copy-and-paste from Megan’s blog everyday!)

Just leave them in my comments or email me.

Keeping little hands occupied

When my daughter was little, we bought a home that had mirrored closet doors. She loved to hang around me and when I was getting ready I needed a way to keep her distracted and occupied. Purely by accident, I found that she could “paint” on the mirrors with hand lotion. She loved this and it made her smell good. Rather than cleaning it off every time, I left the lotion on for a few days (or years…) so she could continue her “painting” later. Just a little dollop goes a long way.

We later discovered that dry erase markers are wonderful for this too. My little ones have enjoyed sitting outside and drawing on the sliding glass window. Dry erase markers wipe off and wash out of clothes.

I know this all sounds very messy (and trust me – I have mess-issues just like the rest of you) – but really, it is such an easy clean up and for the amount of time they spend occupied entertaining themselves, its totally worth it.

*also: please, if you’d be so kind… go to my home page and read the post above this one. I am in need of some questions for my NaBloPoMo posts. Don’t know what NaBloPoMo is? Go here to find out. (but leave me a question on that post before you go!!)

Play Nicely

yee doggy! My wrist is sore from clicking on over 300 (!!!) giveaways!!

I’ve had so many plans for blog posts – all weekend I had several ideas. And now, well, I’ve forgotten them all as I’ve gotten caught up in visions of free goodies!

Instead, I’ll go ahead and posts some links to some interesting things I’ve come across recently. Any of these topics could be a post on their own, but I wouldn’t do them justice… I know, it’s a cop-out, but they are some good ones. And you’d thank me if you knew the nonsense waiting to spew forth from my keyboard otherwise…

I’m not trying to be inflammatory with the links that follow. Just call me informative. (But feel free to let me know your thoughts on any of them)

~Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is a movie by Ben Stein; due out in February 2008.
A quote from the site explaining the premise of the movie:

In a scientific world gone mad, EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed is the controversial documentary that will chronicle Ben Stein’s confrontation with the Neo-Darwinian machine, exposing widespread suppression and entrenched discrimination in his heroic quest to bring back freedom in our institutions, laboratories and most importantly, in our classrooms, with the help of the world’s top scientists, educators and thinkers.

Coming to theaters in early 2008, EXPELLED promises to be the most controversial film of the year (think Fahrenheit 9/11 and An Inconvenient Truth).

~I don’t usually catch 20/20, but last week I did and caught this interesting nugget of information from John Stossel in his “Give Me a Break Segment”. It’s a bit on Global Warming. It is subtitled “Challenging Conventional Views on Global Warming.” Read the transcript here and view the video at youtube here*.

UPDATED to add this link to Angela Hunt’s blog. She wrote a brief post on the global warming issue and posted part of a transcript from a CNN interview with one of the co-Nobel Peace Prize winners this year (you know, the one that Al Gore also managed to be awarded…)

~I love this reminder of how quickly our children grow up, written by the children’s minister at my church. Steve does an awesome job with the kids at our church and reaching out to the kids in the community.

Feel free to discuss. But keep it civil and clean!

~(Additionally – I am so late to the party over at The Domestic Diva’s* blog, but she is giving away a Pink Dyson. The contest ends tomorrow! So hurry and enter. And when you win, plug your ears so you won’t hear me crying… I mean, jumping up and down in total excitement and joy for you! okay… crying…)

*Updated: Link no longer active/available

I got me some goodies goin’ on

*This contest is now closed*
I will be posting the winner tonight at 8:30 CST
~Thank you to all who entered~

I’ve had so much fun with my giveaways this time, that I’ve found myself brainstormin’ for some more. This morning I was drying my hair, and when I opened my drawer to grab my hair cream, I noticed several unopened beauty items. One of the benefits of having a mother-in-law that sells Avon is that I get lots and lots of wonderful products. Sometimes though, I get a gift pack, and there might be one product in it that I know I won’t use.

Hence, this giveaway.

Each of these products is unopened and unused. There is nothing wrong with them. They just either aren’t for my skin type or something I know I won’t use.

This giveaway includes the following:
Avon Naturals Blackberry & Vanilla body lotion (I love the scent of this; I’m just not a body lotion person)
Avon Re-Fine Stretch Mark Smoother (as much as I hate to brag… stretch marks were the ONE thing pregnancy didn’t damage my body with)
Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive Oil Creamy facial cleaner (I just prefer my Anew cleaner)
Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer (I LOVE me some Clinique. In fact, I was a Clinique Consultant pretty much through my entire college days. But this came in a gift pack and has benzoyl peroxide in it. Benzoyl peroxide and I don’t get along… I have a seventh grade photo to prove it.
and finally, for giggles
some Avon Sparklin’ Lash Mascara in Teal – yes teal! you know you wanna try it…

For your chance to win, just leave a comment on this post. I’ll leave the comments open until this Saturday, November 3rd. Then I’ll use a random number generator to draw a winner.

Sorry – this is only open to US residents.

Be sure to see my other giveaway here and here.

Remember to head over to Bloggy Giveaways for the master list of participants. Have fun!
